Ilonggo’s “Singkamas”

August 22nd, 2008

I was browsing the net researching what is the best food for pregnant women like me. I’ve research about the vitamin named folate because it helps prevent anemia. So in this case pregnant women must eat a lot of vegetables and fruits have this substance.

I decided to research food that contains these vitamins. Through my research I found a familiar root crop that is usually eaten by an “Ilonggo”. The native name is “Singkamas”. I was shock that the English term of this is too far from its native term. The English name is Jicama pronounced as “HEE-ka-ma”. Weird isn’t it?

Mang Inasal “Native Chicken”

August 21st, 2008

It was Sunday afternoon at around 4:00 at Philippine time. I’ve went to church together with my boyfriend at Sm Delgado. The mass will start at exactly 5:00 pm. After the mass I got very hungry because I’m pregnant. We decided to eat at Robinsons. I told my bf “b Mang Inasal lang ta kaon ah kay dugay nako la ka kaon didto” at first he didn’t like to eat there. He likes to eat at KFC because he likes the chicken there. I’ve won in our argument so we end up eating at Mang Inasal.

We arrived at exactly 7:30 so we ordered 1 pc. paa with rice, 1 pc. pecho with rice, 1 order of sinigang na baboy and 2 glasses of softdrink. The cashier told us that we will wait for 15 minutes to serve our food. We understand it because its dinner time and there so many people waiting there. 15 minutes have pass our ordered did not come yet. Until my stomach is aching I ask the waiter to follow up our order he says “ Maam wala pa na luto 15 minutes pa” I replied “ok”. Until 15 minutes go by our order did not arrived in our table. The Robinsons has already closed my stomach keeps on making a sound because I’m too hungry. We don’t have any choice but to wait for our order to come. I’ve watch my wrist watch it’s already 8:30 in the evening and when I glance at the cashier I see the waiter holding our food. I’m very happy to watch the waiter approaching in our table. At last our order comes.

Instead of getting angry because we waited for almost 1 hour we end up enjoying eating the chicken and rice.
